About Me

Hello,
My name is Julie and I am a power tool addict. No, don’t worry, this is not another 12-step program. I am hosting this space as a safe and friendly place to discuss all topics related to home improvement. As such, this site welcomes beginners, accomplished intermediates and pros.
A couple of years ago, I somehow got interested in building furniture and making some improvements to my house. I suspect that I must have inherited a latent gene that all of a sudden needed an outlet from “sitting at a desk staring at a computer while talking on the phone all day”. That and a lack of funds to hire contractors started my near obsession with everything power tool, woodworking, and home improvement. I took a beginning design class to learn about scale and design and off I went - new tile for the bathrooms, color for the walls, furniture and drapes for the living spaces… It seems I never run out of ideas and projects.
My first project was building a window seat for our master bedroom. Armed with nothing but a few good sheets of plywood, a circular saw and a few saw horses, I set out to build a window seat with drawers and cabinets and even seat cushions I made myself. It was a huge success! Granted - some aspects seem a little amateurish to me now - but I get a lot of “wow, you made that?!” comments to this day. The sense of pride and accomplishment, as well as the feeling of empowerment that came with that first success, propelled me forward through a number of other projects and experiments.
In this blog, I will
- Share my projects to date, document current projects, and brainstorm future ideas and give you the opportunity to share your own projects as well
- Create lists of books, tools and other cool related stuff of interest
- Create a safe and friendly place for questions and discussion on projects you may have underway or planned
- Share the feeling of empowerment and accomplishment with others
Ok, let’s gear up and have some fun.
